How Fear Based Decision Making Keeps You Stuck

When we’re faced with making difficult decisions, it’s easy to default into fear. These decisions have the potential to change our lives - and depending on how we’re thinking and feeling at the time of decision making, the outcome can either help us move towards a new future, or keep us stuck in a predictable one:

In the moments that we are deciding to act, there is often an emotional trigger, especially if this decision could create large changes in our life or others that are close to us. Often we are programmed to default to fear and become unable to take the needed action that would lead us towards a different future.

Decision making out of faith, inspiration, and trust in yourself indicates high self-worth, and those decisions will always propel you towards a greater future. This means you must continue to make high self-worth decisions regardless of the past may be in order to change your reality.

What about dealing with decisions that we’ve already made, especially in moments of transition when the immediate outcome isn’t ideal?

I’ve recently been thinking about the decisions I’ve had to make in order to move towards my goals, but where the immediate outcome isn’t ideal. It’s so easy to waver on those decisions, since they can trigger emotions of guilt, shame and fear that usually originate from our past experiences. What helped me stay true to my path and values is re-grounding myself into the reason why I made that decision. For example, when you left the old job was it because your boss disrespected you and overstepped boundaries? Or you because you had absolutely no time to take care of yourself and your family? Because you had no creative freedom or sense or autonomy? Remember these reasons, because it’ll reinforce the trust you have within yourself to continue making decisions that are aligned with your values and keep yourself moving forward.

We’re always scared of making the wrong decision. I realized that if you’re clear about the reason WHY you’re making the decision, it’s all you need to know. From that point on, there is no “wrong” decision, because it was made at your highest state of mind in that particular point in time. This also requires that you have grace and forgiveness for yourself, because often we’re not in our ideal state of mind when making decisions (which leads to fear based decision making).

The people I see who make decisions fast and in faith are the most successful and fulfilled, because even if it doesn’t produce the result they want, they trust themselves to take the learnings and and make better choices in the future.

All my love,

Ai
